SALOMON LAUNCHES INSTRUCTIONAL

TRAIL RUNNING VIDEO SERIES

How to Trail Run Episodes Follow Three Runners as they Prep for their first Trail Race

To reach a growing segment of the running population who say they would love to mix up their running habits by venturing off the road and onto trails, Salomon has launched a comprehensive video web series to help runners learn How to Trail Run. The 10-part series follows three runners—two of them Salomon employees—as they prepare to take on their first trail running race.

Along the way, the trio will meet with and learn from trail running experts, professional athletes and licensed medical professionals, allowing viewers to learn the intricacies of trail running through their eyes. Episode topics include injury prevention, uphill and downhill running techniques, managing fatigue, following a training plan, the equipment needed and race-day preparation. The good-natured and sometimes humorous video series was created after research confirmed that a growing number of runners are eager to venture off roads and give trail running a try.

“The idea behind this video series is to show people how to trail run not only high in the mountains, but also around their own urban environment,” said Delphine Veilleux, Global Salomon Brand Manager for Endurance Sports. “The three people chosen to participate are not hardcore trail runners, and watching them learn and enjoy the sport is the perfect way for other runners to understand that it’s possible to start trail running themselves.” V

iewers of the web series will follow the three “stars” as they get expert advice from Salomon’s Global Trail Running team, including French ultra-trail legend Francois D’haene and vertical kilometre champion Laura Orgue of Spain. They’ll also receive guidance from Greg Vollet, Salomon Trail Running Team Manager and the brand’s Global Outdoor Sport & Community Marketing Manager, himself a very successful trail runner. The series was shot in a variety of locations, including Salomon’s own backyard of the French Alps; at D’haene’s winery in the Beaujolais region of France; overlooking the beaches of Sitges, Spain with Orgue; and on Lantau Island in Hong Kong, where the trio competed in their first trail race.

The How to Trail Run webisodes will be housed on a website: howtorun.salomon.com and distributed across Salomon’s various social media channels.

LOCAL ACTIVATION

To help runners get the personal advice they need, the series will be activated on a local level with in-person trail running workshops and community runs in partnership with Salomon retailers. The workshops will take place in the UK, as well as Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the United States, the Netherlands, Russia and Mexico. Additional countries will be added in the coming months.

The goal of the workshops is to reach more runners in a face-to-face situation and educate them on the opportunities to go trail running in their own communities near home. The workshops also provide instruction on trail running techniques and help runners understand the equipment needed. To learn more and find trail running workshops nearby, runners can visit http://trailstations.salomon.com/ beginning in March.

Salomon 2017 Footwear, Apparel and Gear used in the HOW TO TRAIL RUN series: salomon-sense-pro-max

The new lightweight (250 grams/8.8 oz) Sense Pro Max shoes with Vibe Technology were created to extend the trail running journey on light trails. The midsole construction utilizes a multi-material assembly that dampens vibrations to reduce foot fatigue and help you maintain a bounce in your stride even longer. Energy Cell+, a 17 mm high foam, is a midsole compound that provides exceptional energy return, while also delivering substantial cushioning and durability. Salomon’s Opal Technology delivers a soft, high-rebound performance for cushioning and comfort in the high impact zones of the foot. The upper is made of 3D stretch air mesh and features friction-free lace eyelets, Salomon’s Quicklace™ technology and a lace pocket. The outsole is designed to hold steady on challenging terrain with the help of Wet Traction Contagrip®.

“In creating the Sense range of trail shoes we worked with heavier runners, not only traditionally lightweight runners, and tried different midsole thicknesses,” explains Edouard Coyon, Product Line Manager for Salomon Trail Running Footwear. “We learned that there is a sweet spot to help people run with more comfort. So we decided to take a slightly different approach to the midsole thickness.”

The Sense Ride Shoe is generously cushioned to make even the longest runs and the roughest surfaces comfortable. Built with a natural rocker profile, the sole and midsole of this shoe deliver a smooth ride, while Contagrip® offers great traction on soft or hard, wet or dry surfaces.

For runners who want to run a little longer without feeling the effects, the Sense Pro Max is designed to deliver more protection from the ground beneath you. VIBE

Technology runs the length of the shoe, reducing the vibrations that cause muscle fatigue, which means greater comfort for your feet over the journey. The Sense Pro Max also has a higher stack height, which is intended to lessen the impact of each stride.

A minimalist protective layer for technical trails, the lightweight Bonatti Pro Jacket is your ally in bad weather. With a Pertex® Shield and microporous fabric, it has met the challenge of being both 20K/20K waterproof while also remaining breathable, so you can use it to play in any weather conditions. Salomon designers have analyzed your every move to develop the jacket’s MotionFit construction, making it worthy of any adventure you conceive. The Bonatti Pro also fits over your pack so it keeps both you and your gear dry. The chest pocket allows you to pack and stow your jacket when the sun comes out.salomon-bonati-pro

The high-performance and athlete-inspired Fast Wing Hybrid jacket weighs just 100 grams, blocks wind and light moisture, and won’t weigh you down on the trail. This garment can be removed on the fly while running and stowed in its own waistband, so when the wind gusts subside you can keep pace and push on.

salomon-fast-wing-half-zipThe Fast Wing Half Zip Tee has 4-Way Stretch woven fabric on the shoulders that stands up to pack abuse and seams are banned in all pack contact zones. Two back pockets let you carry what you need, while the long zip at the front provides ventilation. AdvancedSkin Active Dry technology grabs moisture and sends it to the surface of your tee where it evaporates.

The Fast Wing Twin Skin Short is Salomon’s lightest twin skin, combining a very breathable liner with an ultralight outer shell. It also has trail essentials like gel pockets and a key pocket on the back waist. The stretch breathable liner eliminates chafing and enables free leg movement, while the lightweight fabric dries fast and remains light for any activity in any weather.

When you aim to run fast on technical trails the Lightning Wind Hoodie lets you pause, rest, take in the view, and keep on battling the wind. The laser-cut ventilation micro-pores are the trick for ensuring your body breathes while keeping the wind out. MotionFit construction with an ergonomic hood means this jacket has analyzed your every move and is all set to follow. Plus, it weighs just 43g/m2 of fabric.

Elevate your hot weather running performance with the superlight, minimal Sense Pro Tank for Women. This ultra-breathable tank

dries quickly and even helps fight odor naturally. The sleeveless design and added venting make this minimal tee ideal for the hottest trail conditions. salomon-light-wind-skort

The Lighting Pro Twinskin Skort is a light skirt that looks great, attached to stretch shorts that stay put. It also has a reflective front and back so you’ll be seen when you want to be. Engineered Exo support in key back and front zones delivers all the support you could want. The 37.5 naturally derived yarn treatment acts as an odor barrier to keep you smelling sweet, so you don’t have to run straight home after training.

Built for comfort and breathability during hot weather sports, the Women’s Medium Impact Bra uses lightweight, breathable fabric and seamless technology to eliminate chaffing. Normal apparel sizing (S, M, L) makes it easy to select sizing, and the bra self-adjusts to fit many shapes. A lightweight, stretch fit provides support for normal running activity and the seamless construction and a soft, breathable fabric means the bra stretches to move with the body.
