Montane Sabre T-Shirt – Reviewed

Well its a t-shirt

You saw it under the Podium Pull on I reviewed

Review Done!

Jackets, vest pack and shoes – broadly speaking, the three categories the majority of kit supplied for testing and reviewing consists of. Their the headline grabbers, the investments, the pieces of kit that no matter how many times they are mentioned on trail and ultra running forums, new identical threads appear.

But theres more kit for running, as my two recent short reviews (Rab & Patagonia) show

Let’s face it, if you’re running the odds are you’re wearing a long or short sleeve t-shirt/jersey or vest. Materials and weight will carry depending on the time of year, but you’ll always have something next to your skin before a shell jacket or running pack.

Montane’s Sabre is a close fitting, short sleeve base layer/t-shirt/jersey/skin hugging thing to keep you off any local village Facebook groups for indecent exposure. Available in two colours – as with most things on test these days, I was sent blue – its a clean cut, no fuss design that champions subtle over garish branding or colour use.

With subtle reflective detailing and a very blue look, it also doesn’t shout “I’m a runner, checkout my splits on mile 4.”

Theres two things for me that matter with a top – fit & material

FIT

It fits.

My 5ft 6″, 75KG frame fits the size small Sabre well. Its not as tight as the brands website studio shot show, so theres a bit of room for those post run custard buns and doesn’t make you look like you’ve been vaccum packed like some mainland Europe offerings.

MATERIAL

POLYGIENE® treated Apex PK fabric

Its light to the touch, breaths well and doesn’t hug you like a limpet when wet through sweat. The POLYGIENE® treatment may help some of you, however, with my fountains for pits, I think I’m the silver ion treatments nemesis, as its not held up to its claims, though my have delayed the onset of pongdom several times.

See me from my right side – reflectivity

Once more, my glutes are front and centre for your viewing pleasure, in order to see the VIA reflective branding in all its glory. Don’t say I don’t treat you well.

And thats all there is to say really. It doesn’t chafe, is comfortable, breaths well and doesn’t restrict when youre smashing out some intervals. All for £30.
